NCWN Launches Online Auction for 40th Anniversary

The North Carolina Writers’ Network (NCWN) is marking its 40th anniversary with a new kind of fundraiser—its first-ever online auction, opening on Giving Tuesday, December 2, and running through December 17.

The 40th Anniversary Online Auction celebrates the state’s literary community with items and experiences that could only come from “the Writingest State.” Bidders can compete for manuscript consultations, marketing and editorial sessions, signed first editions, and even outdoor adventures with some of North Carolina’s most beloved authors, all while supporting NCWN’s statewide programs for writers at every stage of their craft.

“This online auction will be a whole lot more fun than a normal Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign,” said Ed Southern, executive director of the North Carolina Writers’ Network.

Auction highlights include:

  • One-on-one manuscript consultation with North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame inductee Jill McCorkle

  • Signed first editions from fellow inductees Ron Rash and Bland Simpson

  • A private lesson on novel construction with National Book Award winner Jason Mott

  • A personal consultation on submitting work to literary magazines with Margaret Bauer, editor of the North Carolina Literary Review

  • A “Pick a Publisher’s Brain” session with Abby Freeland, senior editor at the University Press of Kentucky

  • Two hours of personal coaching from editor and writer Russell Worth Parker

  • An Author Marketing Package from Catherine Campbell, founder of One for the Books marketing firm

The auction also features once-in-a-lifetime experiences that get writers away from their desks:

  • A paddleboard or kayak excursion with essayist Hannah Dela Cruz Abrams

  • A mountain biking tour of Fire Mountain with novelist Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle

  • A walking tour of Weymouth and the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame with author and filmmaker Georgann Eubanks

  • A guided birdwatching walk with nature writer David Gessner

  • A minor league baseball game with poets and editors Terry Kennedy and Ross White

  • A surfing lesson from writer and NCWN membership director Kaylie Saidin

  • And a guaranteed trivia night win with NCWN Executive Director Ed Southern himself as your team’s secret weapon

The online auction opens December 2 at 9 AM (Eastern) and runs through December 17 at 4 PM (Eastern). All items remain open for bidding for the full duration.

Proceeds from the auction will help fund NCWN’s year-round programming for writers statewide, providing critical support at a time when the arts need it most and serving as an alternative to the organization’s traditional end-of-year fundraising appeal.
