OFTB Welcomes The Retreats at Spring Creek Preserve

As travelers pull back from packed itineraries and crowded downtown stays, a different kind of escape is taking shape just outside Asheville.

The Retreats at Spring Creek Preserve, located on 80 acres in Trust, North Carolina just outside of Hot Springs, is built around a simple but increasingly rare idea: partnership with nature.

Created by Alan and Megan Kleber as a long-term legacy project, the property offers a fully immersive alternative to the traditional vacation rental model. As they describe it, this is “a luxury experience that is nature immersive in a private, park-like environment.”

That philosophy shows up in how the land is experienced. Guests move through five miles of private trails designed by Singletrack Trails and mapped by Pisgah Map Company. A suspended tree net hovers over the creek. An outdoor show, hot tub, a fire pit, and quiet vantage points are placed with intention. There’s no prescribed schedule, no list of must-dos, and no pressure to optimize the stay.

Instead, the experience is built around space, stillness, and autonomy.

Inside the historic cabin on the property, the approach is one of thoughtful modernization while maintaining the cabin’s character. Megan’s background designing boutique hotels informs a layered but quiet interior experience with a Le Creuset-outfitted kitchen and heated bathroom floors, while Alan’s work advising global brands including Royal Caribbean Group, Virgin Voyages, and Cartier brings a level of strategic clarity to the property’s long-term vision.

What’s emerging is a property that sits outside the typical categories: it’s not a hotel, cabin rental or restort. It’s a retreat shaped by each agenda of each guest.

And travelers are responding.

As Asheville continues to draw record numbers of visitors, properties like Spring Creek are offering a counterpoint: proximity without density, access without noise, and a return to something slower.
