Jettie Rae’s Oyster House Celebrates 5 Years As Acclaimed Seafood Destination
This month marks the 5th anniversary of Jettie Rae’s Oyster House, one of Asheville’s most beloved seafood destinations. After opening on July 10, 2020, the restaurant grew into a pillar of hospitality on Charlotte Street, celebrated for its warm, approachable service and commitment to "Honest Food Done Well."
To honor this milestone, Jettie Rae’s hosted a celebratory Classic Fish Fry on Sunday, July 13, inviting guests to enjoy traditional coastal fare and cold drinks in true North Carolina summer style.
From its first shucked oyster five summers ago to its place as Asheville’s #1 seafood restaurant and a national favorite (TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Everyday Eats in the U.S.), Jettie Rae’s has stayed true to its mission: showcasing the rich traditions and flavors of seafood cultures from the American South and beyond, including the culinary influences of Spain, France, Africa, and the Gullah Geechee corridor.
Led by Executive Chef Antonio Perez, the kitchen continues to honor time-tested techniques while evolving the menu seasonally, sourcing locally whenever possible.
“Opening Jettie Rae’s in 2020 was a leap of faith,” says owner Eric Scheffer. “The past five years have been an incredible journey, thanks to our staff, our community, and every guest who has joined us at the table.”
The Classic Fish Fry menu featured crispy fried cod and shrimp served with classic sides: hushpuppies, coleslaw, hand-cut fries, pimento cheese, juicy watermelon, and more. Signature cocktails, beer, and wine were served from The Pearl, Jettie Rae’s vintage Airstream bar, keeping guests refreshed throughout the event.
